Dolls 4 All!
What it is
Dolls 4 All is a collection of (mostly) paper doll designs focused on creating nuanced cultural representation through easily accessible, customizable dolls.
Who it’s for
Children aged 5-10! This is a crucial stage of development when children are fine tuning motor skills, begin to assign meaning to differences- and are still into playing dress-up!
Why it’s needed
Lack of diversity within toys- and access to diverse toys- continues to uphold monolithic cultural norms that are instilled during crucial years of child development.
Part 1: Paper Doll Storybooks
These educational paper doll story books explore underrepresented cultural regions through illustration. Each book has dolls and clothes that can be punched out and correspond with the book’s storyline. Storylines help to engage children and keep educational content fun!
Part 2: Wooden Dolls
The wooden dolls are a more durable alternative to the paper dolls, meant to be taken on-the-go and constantly reused; they can also be used in educational settings such as classrooms. Each set focuses on a different country, with information on the clothing included in the set.
Part 3: Customizable Dolls
This is a website where kids make a doll that looks like them, and can choose from a large variety of clothes- including traditional cultural outfits from every region of the world!- to print, cut out and have a personal paper doll for free! These dolls are meant to encapsulate multicultural identities.
